SALGINA Distal Radius System: Meet the New Generation of Implants

Since the launch of our first distal radius implant in 2019, we have achieved significant milestones in patient care and surgical outcomes. Driven by a relentless commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, we have built on the success and insights gained from our first-ever implant. Today, we are thrilled to introduce the next generation of our distal radius fracture solution.

Our ongoing collaboration with orthopaedic and hand surgeons has been instrumental in refining the SALGINA implant design. The new models incorporate enhanced features that directly address the needs of those who are at the forefront of patient care.

What can you expect from the new portfolio?

  • The Standard SALGINA 2.5mm Volar Distal Radius Plate is designed to handle a vast range of different fracture patterns and is therefore a true “workhorse” for everyday fracture care in the distal radius. The screw configuration follows the “double-tiered subchondral support (DSS) fixation principle”, allowing optimal support of the volar-central and dorsal subchondral bone.
  • The Distal SALGINA 2.5mm Volar Distal Radius Plate contours closely to the volar rim. With its tapered design on the distal end, it decreases the risk of tendon irritation even in juxta-articular plate placement. Just as our standard workhorse plate, the screw configurations allow for the double-tiered subchondral support, providing a maximum of fixation points for more distal and more complex intra-articular fracture patterns.
  • The Dorsal SALGINA 2.5mm Distal Radius Plate is a non-anatomic low-profile plate. However, its recesses allow for ease of cutting to an L / T or hockey-type plate, making it an ideal companion for our volar plates in the treatment of complex distal radius fractures.
  • The SALGINA 2.5mm Wrist Spanning Plate for internal distraction plating can be used for the treatment of highly comminuted distal radius fractures in elderly patients. Fracture reduction is obtained and maintained through ligamentotaxis. The stability of the plate allows patients to use their extremity for daily activities.
  • Even now, with an increasingly comprehensive portfolio, we stay true to our concept of “reducing complexity”: Our portfolio remains focused on the essentials and all plates share the same 2.5mm screw diameter to allow for smooth and easy intraoperative handling. In case a concomittant distal ulna fracture has to be adressed, the instrumentation is also fully compatible with our DALVAZZA 2.5. Distal Ulna Plate.
