The principle of reducing complexity guided the initial development of our POYA 3.5mm line, with one versatile POYA-L (Lateral Proximal Tibia) Plate and one POYA-P (Posteromedial Tibia) Plate on offer. Today, we would like to introduce you to Patrick Burki, our Head of R&D. Patrick is a mechanical engineer with a strong background in product development for the MedTech industry, particularly in the area of orthopaedic trauma and sports medicine. He joined Bonebridge in July 2019.
A healthy and active 56-year-old female patient presented to the emergency department after sustaining an injury from a fall on ice at standing height. She was diagnosed with a four-part proximal humerus fracture on the right side (AO 11C1, Neer IV). Physical examination revealed pain, swelling and hematoma, but no neurological deficit. The patient was treated by ORIF.

Our CEO Christof Gerber and Head of R&D Patrick Burki joined forces with Jessie Dionne, our EVP & GM USA, and his team to introduce our smart orthopaedic trauma implants to surgeons and healthcare professionals on site.
A healthy 59-year-old female presented to the emergency department after sustaining an injury from a fall at standing height during Nordic walking. She was diagnosed with a closed three-part proximal humerus fracture on the left side.
A 70-year-old male patient presented to the emergency department after sustaining an injury to his left wrist from a fall at standing height. He was diagnosed with an intra-articular fracture to his left distal radius with 40° of dorsal angulation. The patient was treated with ORIF.
Today we would like to introduce you to Mélanie Zemp, our Business Intelligence specialist. Mélanie joined the Bonebridge team as an intern in December 2021, shortly after completing a B.Sc. degree in Health Sciences and Technology at ETH in Switzerland.
Tessa recently joined our US division. As an Associate Sales Consultant, she will be supporting our sales team within the US orthopaedic trauma and extremities market. “After FDA approval this fall, the Bonebridge sales activities in the USA are well under way now – so this is a very exciting time to be joining the team,” Tessa says.
Sara started working at Bonebridge in November 2022 and is the latest addition to our Marketing team. She will be planning and executing various marketing and communication activities and will be writing content for our digital and analog channels. “My new colleagues have been so welcoming and helpful, and I’m excited to become a part of this dynamic company,” Sara says about joining Bonebridge. “As a writer, I’m completely on board with the ‘reducing complexity’ concept, and it’s great to work with people who share that mindset.”
Kis Baumgartner joined Bonebridge in October 2022 as our Head of Supply Chain Management. In this role, he is responsible for our procurement and production planning and all our purchasing and logistics operations. “The team has given me a very warm welcome. It’s great to be working alongside such talented colleagues,” Kis says about his first weeks with Bonebridge. “It’s a small but growing company, and I’m excited to contribute to its success.
A healthy and active 18 year old female patient presented to the emergency department after sustaining an injury from skiing. She was diagnosed with a minimally displaced 1-part fracture of her proximal humerus on the right hand side and was treated conservatively. After 10 days, the patient returned with a secondary displacement of the fracture into varus (Neer 2-part fracture). The patient was then set-up for ORIF.
An 83 year old female patient presented to the emergency department after sustaining an injury from a fall at standing height. She was diagnosed with a fracture to her right proximal ulna, which extended from the olecranon to the metaphysis (Monteggia fracture, Bado/Jupiter IID), as well as a fracture and dislocation to the radial head. The patient was treated by ORIF.
A healthy and active 19 year old male student presented to the emergency department after sustaining an injury from falling off his mountain bike. He was diagnosed with a displaced midshaft clavicle fracture on the right hand side with significant shortening. The patient was treated by ORIF.
An athletic, 37 year old male patient sustained injuries to his left clavicle and proximal humerus, after falling from his bike at high speed. Physical and radiological examinations confirmed a displaced midshaft clavicle fracture, as well as a threepart proximal humerus fracture with posterior dislocation of the head and articular loss. The patient's preoperative pain level (VAS) was 6/10. The patient was treated with ORIF for both fractures.
A 67 year old female presented to the emergency department after sustaining an injury incurred from a fall at standing height. She was diagnosed with a three-part proximal humerus fracture on the left side. The patient was treated with ORIF.
Today we would like to introduce you to the COO and one of the founders of Bonebridge, Alexander Häusler. Alex is responsible for the financial, operational and supply chain aspects of the company. He makes sure that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes and that our goal of "reducing complexity" is applied in everything we do.
A healthy, 77 year old male patient presented to the emergency department after sustaining an injury from a fall onto his outstretched arm. Examination and imaging confirmed an intraarticular, multifragmentary fracture of his left distal radius (AO Classification: 2R3C3.1). Sensory and motor function as well as vascular function was intact. Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) was performed. A Salgina 2.5mm wide plate was selected for the internal fixation.
A 30 year old male patient presented to the emergency department after sustaining an injury from a bicycle accident. Examination and imaging confirmed a midshaft clavicle fracture to the left side. It was decided to treat the fracture conservatively.
A healthy and very active 27 year old male presented to the emergency department after sustaining an injury from an E-bike collision. He was diagnosed with a closed fracture of his left proximal tibia (AO41B3.3 — Schatzker V), which consisted of comminution to the lateral plateau, a coronal shear fracture of the medial condyle as well as an ACL avulsion fracture and a lateral meniscus lesion. Vascular and neurologic status was uncompromised. The patient was treated by ORIF.
Today we would like to introduce you to Sarah Bürki, our Head of Clinical Affairs. Sarah grew up in the alpine valley of Diemtigtal close to the famous Niesen mountain, so her winters were all about skiing as the slopes were just around the corner. But also in summer she was a very active kid participating in running contests. "I once even won 'z'schnäuste Bärner Modi' in the Canton of Berne over the 1km distance," she explains with a grin.
Exactly two years after the kick-off of the development phase the CASCELLA 3.5mm Superior Clavicle Plate is announced as a winner of the annual Red Dot Award! The Red Dot Award is an international design competition, which stands for belonging to the best in design and business. Excellent designs are selected by competent expert juries in the areas of product design, communication design, and design concepts. The competition takes place once a year and receives submissions from designers from more than 60 countries worldwide. Winners are published in the annual Red Dot Design Yearbook and a presentation is delivered in an exhibition.
